Milton and Osborn Closed Tuesday

Complications with restoration of power at Milton and two downed power poles at Osborn will keep the schools closed another day.

The Rye City School District is hoping to get Osborn and Milton schools open as soon as possible, but complications with the damage there is keeping them closed again Tuesday, Nov. 6. This will be the seventh school day in a row the schools are closed.

In a letter to parents of students at that school, Superintendent Dr. Frank Alvarez wrote that crews are on site at Milton, where power returned earlier Monday, but that there were complications with the restoration of the wiring. Con Edison is back on the scene but Milton remains closed for Tuesday.

Alvarez said the challenge at Osborn is tow downed utility poles that had to be replaced by a private contractor. The contractor will return tomorrow to complete more work and Con Edison was on site today and will return tomorrow.

"I anticipate that Osborn will open this week; however, Osborn will remain closed Tuesday," Alvarez said.

"Our primary goal at this time is to ensure that our students return to school as quickly as possible to avoid more loss of instructional time," Alvarez wrote. The administrative team, Board of Education trustees and staff members worked feverishly during the past several days to return our schools to a sense of normalcy. The Rye City Manager, the Police Department and Con Edison continue to work hand in hand with us, keeping us informed and facilitating the restoration of power to our schools."

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.
