Majority of Rye High School Seniors Headed to Top-Tier Colleges

Rye High School students have been accepted to variety of universities, including Harvard, Yale, Stanford and New York University.

A graduation draws near, a majority of Rye High School seniors know where they will be headed to college in the fall.

Patricia Taylor, Assistant Principal for Guidance at the school, gave a presentation Tuesday on college acceptances at the Rye Board of Education meeting.

Taylor said the guidance department processed 1,355 college applications this year. A total of 189 students applied to multiple colleges and received a total of 714 acceptances and only 273 rejections.

Rye High School students gained acceptance to colleges across the country.

Five students applied and were admitted to Yale University in New Haven, Conn. Out of eight students who applied to Harvard, three were admitted. Four students out of 12 were admitted to Darmouth College, while five were admitted to Cornell and the University of Michigan, respectively.

Other schools that admitted Rye students include the University of Delaware, University of Maryland, Loyola University, Bowdoin, University of Chicago, Northwestern, University of Pennsylvania, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Vassar and Stanford, among others.

Taylor said Rye High School students had achieved a great accomplishment.

"I can't say it enough how proud we are. The students have done an incredible job," she said.

The school district will not have the full list of students' college choices until mid-June.

Most of the students have made final decisions, but a few are still deciding, Taylor told Patch on Wednesday.

Rye Patch will publish a complete list of the names of each student and their college choice for both Rye High School and Blind Brook High School as soon as it becomes available.
