The King's Best Highway

How much do you know about the street where you live?  Eric Jaffe, author of The King's Best Highway, will relate the lost history of the Boston Post Road, the "route that made America," in a talk at the Rye Library.  During its evolution from Indian trails to modern interstates, the Boston Post Road has carried not just travelers and mail but the march of American history itself.

Jaffe, a graduate of Columbia University School of Journalism and a former editor of Smithsonian magazine's wevsite, captures the progress of people and culture along the road through four centuries, from its earliest days as the King of England's "best highway" to the current era.

Copies of The King's Best Highway will be available for purchase and signing.  This program is co-sponsored by the Rye Free Reading Room and the Rye Historical Society.
