Department of Education Releases Graduation Data for Rye-Area High Schools

Rye High School and Blind Brook High School have some of the highest graduation rates in the state

More than 90 percent of high school seniors at Rye High School and Blind Brook High School graduated within four years, according to a report recently released by the New York Department of Education.

Both schools had among the highest graduation rates of the state's high schools, with graduation rates higher than the overall state graduation rate of nearly 72 percent.

Of the 96 Blind Brook freshmen who started high school in 2005, 99 percent finished in 2009. Of those who started in 2004 and 2003, 100 percent and 98 percent, respectively, graduated in four years.

Rye High School had similar results. Of the 189 freshmen who started in 2005, 98 percent graduated in four years. For 2003 and 2004, 96 percent and 97 percent of students graduated on time.

The data for both schools is in line with their continued strong academic performance in both state and national rankings.

Last fall, Rye High School and Blind Brook High School were named to the coveted U.S. News and World Report list of America's Best High Schools. Blind Brook High School ranked 55th, while Rye High School ranked 59th.

As of December, Rye High School seniors had already been accepted to top-tier colleges, with 47 percent of students at the time gaining admissions to schools such as Brown University, Tulane, Syracuse, New York University, Columbia, Duke and Cornell.
