Counting the Days Until School Resumes

There's still about 8 weeks left of summer according to the 2013-2014 Rye City Schools calendar. The first day of school for students is slated for Sept. 9th, which is after Labor Day.

The first day of the 2013-2014 school year for Rye City School District is after Labor Day this year. School is closed for Labor Day on September 2nd and closed for Rosh Hashanah holiday September 5th and 6th. Opening day for students this fall is September 9th.

With missed days of school last year due to weather events, there is some flexibility built into the calendar for the upcoming school year. For example, if it is necessary to use an emergency day during the first two months of school, November 5th will be an instructional day for students.

If it is necessary to use additional snow/emergency days, according to the calendar on the district website, the days will be made up in the following order to meet the 180-day requirement: April 21st (the Monday after spring recess), May 27th (the Tuesday after Memorial Day recess), and May 23rd (the Friday before Memorial Day recess).

If it is necessary to use an additional snow or emergency day, June 27th will be the last day for students. Otherwise the last day of school will be June 26th.
