It is my privilege to announce my candidacy for election to the Blind Brook Board of Education. The election will be held May 15th.
Over the next 12 to 18 months the district will confront critical challenges that will impact our community for years to come:
- Three union contracts---including the vitally important teachers' contract---have expired or are about to expire. These contracts need to be renegotiated effectively.
- Three principals are currently untenured and will need to be assessed for tenure.
- The Superintendent's and assistant Superintendent's contracts are set to expire. These positions need to be evaluated.
Experience, institutional knowledge and commitment are essential at this very critical juncture. Having previously served as a member of the Board of Education for three terms (nine years), as President of the Board for two years, and in other public offices, I have the requisite qualifications to meet the challenges we face.
I know how to work collegially with other members of the Board. I understand how to conduct meetings with decorum, what questions need to be asked, and how to set direction for our administrators. Most importantly, I know how to build consensus in order to resolve issues. I am absolutely committed to educational excellence and prudent financial management.
My family and I are proud of the Blind Brook schools and of our broader community. My wife, Gail, has been teaching at KTI Early Childhood Program in Port Chester for fourteen years. Both of our children are graduates of the Blind Brook schools. Our son, Andrew, is an attorney in New York City, and our daughter, Lisa, is an elementary special education teacher in the Pelham school district.
I would like your support and I look forward to again serving on the Board of Education.
