Blind Brook 2013-2014 Budget Vote Tuesday

The details on the proposed BB budget for next year.

The adopted $41,252,239 2013-2014 budget represents a 3.23 percent increase over the 2012-2013 budget. This means the homeowner with the average assessed valuation of property at $723,036 would pay $10,988 in school taxes for the 2013-2014 school year. The estimated tax levy increase is 3.25 percent and is below the mandated tax levy cap.

Rye Brook voters will also have the opportunity to cast a ballot for the one candidate running for one empty seat on the school board, Ryan S. Goldstein.

 In addition, there are two propositions on the ballot. Voters will choose yes or no on the propositions:

 Proposition 1- A tax levy of $41,252,239. The proposition reads: Shall the proposed budget or estimate of expenditures for the ensuing fiscal year (July 1, 2013 – June 30, 2014) presented by the Board of Education in the amount of $41,252,239 be approved and the taxes in the necessary amount therefore be levied?  

Proposition 2-
Approval of an energy performance contract at a cost of $3,140,000. The proposition reads: Shall the Board of Education of the Blind Brook-Rye Union Free School District be authorized to (1) install and construct energy efficient improvements at various School District facilities, including site work thereat, and acquire equipment, machinery, apparatus, appurtenances, and incidental improvements and expenses in connection therewith, at a maximum estimated cost not to exceed $3,140,000; (2) expend such sums for such purposes; (3) levy the necessary tax therefor, to be levied and collected in annual installments in such years and in such amounts as may be determined by the Board of Education as provided in Section 416 of the Education Law; and (4) in anticipation of the collection of such tax, issue bonds and notes of the District at one time or from time to time in the principal amount not to exceed $3,140,000, and to levy a tax to pay the interest on said obligations when due?  

Voting will be held at the Old Gym at the Ridge Street School, 390 North Ridge Street between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.
