Alvarez: Safety is a Major Priority

A message from Rye City School District superintendent Frank Alvarez.

While we are still feeling the aftermath of Friday’s tragic incident in Newtown (CT) today our schools had a calm and productive work day. Faculty and staff did their best to promote a sense of business as usual. Students who needed additional support or who had questions were given individual attention. I visited each school this morning as did members of my team at the Central Administration Building. The level of professionalism on the part of District personnel is commendable, while your trust in us is appreciated.

As noted in my earlier message, safety is a major priority for the District. We are reviewing all of our current emergency management procedures. I have been in communication since the weekend with Commissioner William Conners, Board of Education members, and the Rye Police Department. Tomorrow I plan to meet with Parent Organization leaders, followed by meetings with principals and various representatives from throughout the school community. In the meantime, you may offer suggestions or state concerns at our special email address: feedback@ryeschools.org. Recommendations will emerge from our collective discussions and expertise.

Please know that we are here to support you and your family during this difficult time. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help.
