Rye Varsity Hockey TODAY: BIGGEST Game of the Season So Far

Coming off a strong 6-2 win on MLK Monday the Garnets (6-4-1) have their biggest game of the season so far,  tomorrow Thursday January 23rd at 8:15pm, at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink in Larchmont versus their long time rival Pelham Pelicans (10-2-1). The Pelicans come in riding a six game win streak.

With a win the Garnets are guaranteed a playoff spot and they will draw the respect of the rest of Section 1 hockey (the media, other teams, and fans) who so far have paid little attention to the Garnets.

Like all recent match ups against Pelham, this looks to be a great game:  7 of the last 8 games between these two teams have been decided by 1 goal! (see below)

The huge crowd at Hommocks last year was treated to an epic game, with Rye jumping out 3-0 and Pelham clawing back but losing 3-2 to stun the Section 1 hockey world. Standout performances came from Griffin Tutun (“flying … and winning battles in the corners”) and building shaking goals from Cal Hynson and Connor McGovern. The atmosphere was electric!

Don’t miss this important and annual D-2 rival game!  Come out and support your Garnets – let’s make this a real home game at Hommock’s and cheer our Garnets on!

"A good opponent is a rare and treasured thing for any team or player. For a good opponent defines a player or a team. By forcing you to be as good as you can be, such an opponent stretches the boundaries of your emotional and playing experience, giving you your highest highs and lowest lows; your best and worst and hardest moments. When you get to an age or to a moment that causes you to look back, you realize how important that is...."
