The last gasp of summer is in the air as we enjoy slightly cooler days and watch the school children excitedly return to their classrooms. Most educational facilities have been spruced up over the summer and some are still undergoing more extensive improvements such as the new upcoming Rye High School science wing and the new play yard at F.E. Bellows Elementary in the Rye Neck district. Coupled with the educational edifice enhancements, Rye will get to enjoy the benefits of having a brand new Central Avenue bridge and the recently reopened Ridge Street Bridge between Rye and Rye Brook. All of these improvements might also cause us to pause and reflect on the vibrant residential real estate market in the Sound Shore area during the first 8 months of 2013. Once again, in certain pockets, we have seen pre recession interest levels including packed open houses, multiple offers and quick sales. Last week alone we saw 28 homes sell in the area between Port Chester to the North and Larchmont to the South. The prospects for the 2013 fall market remain strong with a total of 19 new active single family listings just last week and many others about to be added in September. If you think you missed your opportunity to take advantage of the spring real estate market, this fall might just surprise you!
