Sustainable Playland Plans to Continue Following Parker's Withdrawal of Support

Westchester County Legislator Catherine Parker (D-Rye) said Tuesday that she was withdrawing her support for Sustainable Playland, Inc., citing concerns over the potential financial impact to taxpayers and other issues.

SPI's plan to revitalize and improve the amusement park has generated a fair amount of discussion - pro and con - in recent months, but in light of Parker's announcement, SPI has quickly come out with a statement that it was continuing its work.

Below is the text from SPI's announcement:

The following is a statement from Sustainable Playland spokesman Geoff Thompson regarding Tuesday’s announcement by County Legislator Catherine Parker that she has withdrawn her support of the SPI plan for Playland.

"We respect Legislator Parker’s decision but remain committed to restoring Playland park and adding new facilities for year round use of the park,” said Geoff Thompson, Sustainable Playland spokesman.
