The Rye Brook planning board voted 4-2 to support the plans for a four rink ice complex at 1100 King St. last Thursday. Now, the Board of Trustees is expected to set a date for a public hearing at its meeting tonight.
At the request of the trustees to expedite the planning process, the Planning Board held a special meeting last week in order to make a final decision on the project.
The Ice Rink would be built by Reckson Operating Partnership, which already owns the current office building at that location. The 140,000 square foot facility would include indoor seating for more than 1,000 people, open seating for 320 and 244 parking spaces.
While Rye Brook moves the project forward, Rye City officials and Greenwich officials have criticized the plan. Rye officials are concerned about the competition the new rink may cause for the Playland Ice Casino and traffic. Greenwich officials cite concerns over traffic, watershed and other environmental elements that may be affected by the project.
