[UPDATE] CORRECTED: Rye Brook Drop-In at AJP Center, Pump Assist Available

The Village of Rye Brook has set up a drop-in center at AJP Center. Shelter available at PCHS on Tamarack Road.

Update, Sunday, August 28 - The AJP Community Center is now closed as a drop-in shelter for residents, according to the Village website. Those needing shelter should go to Port Chester High School.

The , 32 Garibaldi Place, will serve as a drop-in location for residents seeking a break from the storm, it is not a shelter. Residents needing shelter should go to PCHS at 1 Tamarack Road. Pets are not allowed.

Sand bags are no longer being distributed at the police department. Earlier bags were available at no cost.

If best efforts to keep out water fail, requests for pump outs should be made through the police department non-emergency number, 914-937-1020.

Requests involving water above 12 inches will be handled by the Fire Department on a case-by-case basis. Priority will be given to situations involving compromised structures or utilites, according to the Village website.

Village Administrator Christopher Bradbury sent the following statement about the pump-out procedures:

Residents should call RB Police at 937-1020 to get on a list for pump-outs.  Threats to structures or utilities are the first priority.  Most pump-outs will occur when it is safe after the storm and will be evaluated on a case by case basis.  Water must be over 12 inches due to the large size of the fire department pumps.

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.
