Otis Officially Launches Campaign for Assembly

Former Rye City Mayor Steve Otis will hold fundraiser next week to start his campaign for New York State Assembly

Since announcing his intent to run for New State Assembly in March, former Rye Mayor Steve Otis has been preparing for the launch of his campaign next Saturday.

Rye Assemblyman George Latimer (D) is running for the vacancy created by New York Senator Suzi Oppenheimer's retirement against developer Bob Cohen.

“I am eager to put my skills and years of public service to work in this new role," said Otis. "The experience I have gained from working closely with Suzi Oppenheimer for 27 years, as well as my 12 years as Mayor of Rye, have provided me with a deep knowledge of issues important to Westchester residents."

Next Saturday's fundraiser will be held in Oppenheimer's Mamaroneck home. She is retiring after nearly 28 years in Albany.

The 91st Assembly District includes Larchmont, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle, Port Chester, Rye Brook and Rye.

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.
