Letter to the Editor: Larchmont Resident Supports Tom Murphy

The following letter to the editor was submitted by Liz Liscio.

I have known Tom Murphy for several years and have been impressed by his dedication to public service in the Village of Mamaroneck.  Many years before my involvement with The Hispanic Resource Center, Tom was a strong supporter of the rights of local immigrants specifically concerning the right to seek employment.  Several members of our current board of directors were on the board many years ago when Tom’s support was vitally important and given openly without regard to personal retribution.

Notwithstanding that during the course of trying the settle the lawsuit, some residents picketed Tom’s home and a large cadre of outside anti-immigrant agitators, he still counts it as one of the prouder moments of his public life. With Tom’s input, the HRC and the lawyers representing the Village and the Puerto Rican Legal Defense Fund fashioned an agreement that guaranteed the workers civil rights and protected the local taxpayers from huge damages.

It is my personal belief that Tom Murphy will represent our district in Westchester County government in a manner consistent with his record of being supportive and principled.
