Hazing Conversation; Budget Votes; City Council Meeting

Five things you need to know today, May 20.

1.    School Budget Vote and Elections Tuesday
Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday to vote on the Blind Brook and Rye 2013-2014 school budgets and board of education members.

Community Conversation on Hazing
Rye Middle School PO 8th Grade Parent Committee invites parents to a conversation about freshman and hazing on May 23 at 9 a.m. in the Rye middle School Multi-purpose room, as reported on MyRye.com. The conversation will be facilitated by Peter Green, the school social worker. Dr. Edwards, HS Principal Pat Taylor and our Athletic Director Rob Castagna will also be present, along with Superintendent Frank Alvarez.

Rye Town Park Commission Meeting
The Rye Town Park Commission will meet on Tuesday, May 21 at 6 p.m.  The Commission will discuss Financial & Operations Reports, a  Review Seaside Johnnies Menu and Uniform and a Draft Filming Policy.

Blind Brook and Rye Board of Education
The BB BOE will meet Monday, May 20 at 8 p.m. in the MS/HS Library.
Prior to the meeting there will be a celebration of teaching at 7:30 p.m. in the Commons at the Blind Brook High School. This celebration will honor those who are retiring from the District as well as those receiving tenure.

The Rye Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 21, at 8 pm in the RMS Multipurpose Room (3 Parsons Street). At this meeting, an Extra Mile Award will be presented to SEPTA President Rhonda Papert. The agenda additionally includes the adoption of Mandarin IV, the Project Lead the Way: Pathway to Engineering Program, and the Science 21 Instructional Program. The Budget Vote and Board of Education Election will also be held in the Middle School gymnasium on May 21, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. Results will be announced at the meeting after ballots are closed. All are welcome to attend this meeting.

Rye City Council Meeting
The council will meet on May 22 at 8 p.m. in Town Hall. Here is the agenda.
