Cameron and Punyon Call for Review of All City Functions

City Council candidates Meg Cameron and Shari Punyon called for an organization-wide review of City operations in a recent press release Friday.

They called for a review of each city department, infrastructure needs and the city’s procedures for internal oversight, management and auditing. They proposed implementing such a review if elected.

Their joint statement said: “Every well-run organization periodically surveys its operations to reduce inefficiency and correct problems. Given the discord on the City Council and oversight failures on a number of City issues, such a survey is long overdue.”

The analysis will focus on three areas:

1. Review of each City Department to determine its ability to perform required tasks, and identify areas for improvement.

2. Review of the City’s short and long-term infrastructure needs, including road repair, facility management and flood mitigation. Is the City making the right decisions about maintenance, repair and new projects?

3. Review of the City’s procedures for internal oversight, management and auditing. Given the Golf Club fiasco, the City Council needs to make sure that internal and independent audit and control procedures are protecting taxpayers.

If elected, the candidates will propose that an organization-wide review be conducted in 2014, in a format to be determined by the City Council, with input from the City Council, City staff and the public.

“Historically, Rye has enjoyed quality services provided in a professional manner. The City is fortunate to have been served by many dedicated staff throughout the years. We want to ensure that the City staff has the resources and oversight to ensure that our high standards are maintained," Cameron said.

“The best way to protect taxpayer dollars is to make sure the City is operating intelligently and efficiently. The analysis we propose will help restore confidence in the business of City government," Punyon said.

Cameron and Punyon seek support from all voters who want the City to be governed responsibly.
