BP Station Seeks Approval to Build Canopy at BPR Location

Representatives of BP gas station at 1 Boston Post Road presented plans to build a canopy, replace underground storage tanks with larger tanks and make a few other site improvements to that station at the Rye Planning Commission Tuesday, Aug. 13.

They plan to build a canopy to cover the four pumps there to protect customers from the elements and install one 12,000 and one 10,000 gallon tank in order to double their fuel storage there, attorney Paul Noto told the Commission. The new station will have no televisions but will have speakers available for customers to contact clerks inside if needed.

A Brevort Lane resident who said he lives across s the street from the site asked the Commission to consider the size of the canopy and lighting plans and said the beeping noise of delivery trucks and garbage pickup in the middle of the night there is disturbing. The Commission closed the hearing and continued the discussion during the regular meeting.

The BP representative said there had been early morning garbage pickup but carting service has since been mandated to only pickup at 10 a.m. He also said that there will be fewer fuel deliveries if the larger tanks are installed.

The Planning Commission asked the applicant to return with a revised lighting plan and a water treatment plan, which the applicant said they would have to consult with the city engineering department to design.
