Bee Line Route 76 Line Service Ends Jan. 2

Rye resident: Decision will be tough on seniors who can't drive.

Westchester's Bee Line bus service, effective Monday, Jan. 2, has been cancelled the Route 76 line linking Rye and Port Chester.

In its place, Bee Line says selected trips on the Route 13 will be extended to Rye and Playland.

Rye resident Arthur H. Stampleman of Milton Road in Rye says he doesn't think the change is a good idea.

"This will be especially hard on senior citizens who cant drive, caregivers who depend on the bus to get to other seniors and other workers who depend on the bus to get to their jobs," Stampleman said.

Stampleman said he saw the county's notice issued on Wednesday and doesn't think that's enough advance warning for bus riders.

"How horrible as they do not even give people a week's notice," He said. "Tuesday morning when people return to work around here after the holiday weekend they will be standing there waiting for a bus. How mean! Can they do this"
