Rye Police Officer Injured in Car Accident

Officer Angelina Santonastaso was in her police car when she was hit by another vehicle.

A Rye Police officer was injured in an accident Monday after another vehicle hit her police car from behind.

Officer Angelina Santonastaso, a 10-year veteran of the department, was stopped in the left turn lane near the intersection of Boston Post Road and Purdy Avenue when her police car was hit around 3:55 p.m.

Police said Andrew Singer, 43, of Scarsdale, was driving his 2004 Lexus SUV when he hit Santonastaso's police car. Singer, who was the only occupant of the car, was not injured.

Officer Santonastaso was taken to Greenwich Hospital, where she was treated for neck and back pain and released.

Santonastaso will be out of work for a couple of weeks, police said.

Singer has not been issued with a summons yet for the accident and police have not determined whether speed was a factor.
