Rye Police Blotter: Rye Town Park Employees Allegedly Dump Food on Teen Girls, Man Gets Bitten by Neighbor's Dog

A rundown of police incidents in the city of Rye.

Over the last two weeks, Rye police have dealt with incidents involving vandalism committed by teens, skirmishes at Rye Town Park and a dog fight that culminated in a Rye resident being bitten by his neighbor's dog. There's a lot more that has happened in recent weeks. Read the blotter below to find out what crimes have been keeping police busy.

Attempted Forced Entry

Sometime overnight on Sept. 8 an unknown person tried to gain entry to a home on Forest Avenue. The front storm door and its wood trim were damaged. However, the person was unable to get all the way inside because of the home's deadbolt locked doors.

Broken Windows

On Sept. 8, a Milton Road resident returned home to discover that two basement window panes had been broken. However, no one broke into the home.

Man Harassed by Ex-Girlfriend

A 32-year-old man told Rye police on Sept. 8 that his former girlfriend is harassing him at his place of employment, Frankie and Johnnies Restaurant on Purchase Street. The man also told police that the restaurant's management told his ex that she is not welcomed there anymore because of her behavior.

Food Fight at Rye Town Park

Two 17-year-old girls in Rye said they got into a skirmish with and are being harassed by employees at Rye Town Park. One of the girls told police that while she and her friend were counting cars in the park , they have been allegedly harassed by park employees. The alleged harassment began verbally a few weeks ago and culminated on Sept. 6 with food being dumped on them.

Drunken Driver

On Sept. 3, an officer observed a car traveling east on Peck Avenue with a plate partially covered in the rear window of the car. The officer stopped the car and asked the driver for his license and registration. The driver identified himself as John Carlos Angel, a 51-year-old man from Stamford. The vehicle's paperwork revealed that Angel's insurance was expired. His driving privileges in New York and Connecticut had also been suspended. 

The officer also detected a strong alcohol odor on Angel's breath and smelled marijuana coming from the car. The officer then asked Angel, who had bloodshot, watery, glassy eyes, if he had anything to drink and Angel told him he had two beers. The officer asked Angel to step out the car, but had to repeatedly ask him to put his cigarette out, which he refused to do several times. Angel  was given a field sobriety test, which he failed. He was taken into police custody, but was released on $500 cash bail. He was scheduled to appear in Rye City Court today. 

Stolen Property

On Sept. 4,  a 43-year-old resident of Dalphin Drive reported that his laptop was stolen from the pool area at a local country club. The man stated that on Aug. 30 between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. his computer was stolen from the pool/paddle area of the Shenorock Shore Club.

Underage Drinking

On Sept. 5 , Rye police responded to Kirby Lane on a report of young kids drinking in the area. After canvassing the area, police officers located a group of kids at the end of a home on Kirby Lane. The kids were attempting to hide the bottles of alcohol when officers arrived. All of them tested positive for alcohol and were brought to headquarters to be released into the custody of their parents.

Cyberbullying

A woman reported to police on Sept. 5 that her 14-year-old son was being allegedly harassed and threatened over the Internet by a classmate. 

Dog Fight in the Neighborhood

On Sept. 5, a resident of Sound Road reported that his neighbor's dog attacked both he and his dog. The man said that the dog, whose owners live on Brevoort Lane, ran off their property and onto his own, attacking his dog. When the man tried to break up the dog fight, the neighbor's dog bit him on the finger. 

Criminal Mischief

A 64-year-old resident of Milton Road told police on Sept. 5 that someone threw a rock through his window. The man said that at around 1:30 p.m, he came home to find the back window of his home shattered. The rock broke the first pane of glass, and a small rock remained inside the window pane.

Purchase Street Burglary

On Sept. 2 a 32-year-old man reported that he and his wife left their Purchase Street apartment for work at 7:45 a.m. and when he returned home from work at 7:00 p.m, he discovered that his wife's jewelry boxes and his watch box were laying on top of the bed and were empty. In addition to the jewelry being stolen, the thief also stole his wife's Marc Jacob purse and a spare BMW key. Police did not notice any signs of forced entry, but the man told them that there was work being done on the 2nd floor  of his apartment building, as well as brick pointing outside his courtyard windows.

Vehicle Vandalism

On Sept. 1, a 30-year-old old man told police that sometime between Aug. 25 and Sept. 1, his vehicle was vandalized while parked in the Highland lot. Someone had damaged his driver's side mirror, door and front quarter panel.

Kids Vandalize Neighborhood

A resident of Loder Street told Rye police on Aug. 26 that a group of youths had committed vandalism in the neighborhood around 9 p.m. She said the kids ran through her neighborhood, breaking mirrors on her BMW and attempting to knock a boat off of her trailer. Officers searched the area after the crime was reported, but did not find the teens.
