Rye Brook Village Police Urge Residents to Prepare Now

A message from the Rye Brook Village police.

Residents are urged to prepare for Hurricane Sandy

The Village of Rye Brook is closely monitoring Hurricane Sandy as it approaches the East Coast. As of Saturday, Hurricane Sandy is on track to make landfall anywhere between southernNew JerseyandEastern Long Islandstarting Sunday evening.

The Village of Rye Brook urges residents to take steps to prepare for heavy rain, storm surge, and strong winds. Make sure your emergency supply kits and Go Bags are stocked and ready to go with supplies like water, non-perishable food, a first aid kit, flashlights, a battery-operated radio, and extra batteries.

The Rye Brook Department of Public Works will be clearing catch basins and picking up leaves on Saturday, October 27, 2012 and Sunday, October 28.  Residents are asked to not put leaves into the street and to bring in any lawn ornaments, plants and unsecured items.

Residents who live along the Blind Brook are asked to not throw leaves, branches or debris into the brook as that will cause blockages and down stream flooding.

Residents experiencing an interruption in electrical service should contact Con Edison Directly at 1-800 75CONED (26633) to report their outage. All affected residents should call Con Edison even if the outage was reported by their neighbor.
