Rye and County Police Pursuing Suspect After Traffic Stop

Rye Police and Westchester County Police are currently searching for a suspect who fled on foot from a traffic stop this afternoon.

Update: The suspect is currently in the custody of Westchester County Police, according to a Rye Police NIXLE alert at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday. Correction: The NIXLE alert reports the suspect is in custody of the New York State Police, not Westchester County Police.

Rye Police are assisting Westchester County Police in search of a suspect who fled a traffic stop near the intersection of Milton Road and Intervale Place Tuesday afternoon around 12:20 p.m.

Westchester County Police initiated the stop and the suspect -a black male wearing a dark jacket- apparently fled the scene on foot. According to police radio transmissions, the suspect may be hiding in a nearby wooded area.

Rye Police and Harrison Police are currently assisting in the search with K-9 units. Additional law enforcement continue to report to the scene.

A NIXLE alert was released at 1 p.m. by Rye Police describing the suspect as a black male, approximately six feet tall and wearing a blue coat.

Update: At 2:26 p.m., Rye Police sent another NIXLE alert indicating the search had been concluded and the suspect was "believed out of the area."

Nice scoop Renea. Your competitors are currently either asleep - or claim the search is happening at a street location that does not exist in Rye!
