Recent ATM Incident in Rye Latest in County Wide Problem
The discovery of a stealth ATM skimmer at Rye's CitiBank branch is the latest in such incidents throughout the area and around the country.
Rye Police acted quickly to remove a stealth ATM skimmer found at the branch on Boston Post Road Tuesday. Lt. Joseph Verille said the device had been there for no more than two days. The department sent a NIXLE alert to warn residents about the incident.
Similar events have occurred at Rye bank branches in the recent past including an incident ; in Harrison last August, in Bronxville last September and nearby Rye Brook in 2010.
In fact, last November five men were accused of plotting a county wide ATM skimming operation.

“I had one of my officers check banks in our jurisdiction,” Lt. Eugene Matthews of the Rye Brook police department. “At this time there is no indication of a similar occurrence.”
As a precaution following the Rye incident, Lt. Matthews said officers checked all ATMs in Rye Brook for similar devices and found none.
