Reports of Possible Explosion Near Rye/Mamaroneck Border; No Source Found

Residents in the Greenhaven and Shore Acres report hearing a possible explosion around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night. Rye Police Commissioner William Connors says area is clear.

Rye Police Commissioner William Connors confirms the department received multiple reports from residents in the Greenhaven and Shore Acres area this Wednesday evening around 6:30 p.m. of a possible explosion and ground shaking.

"About an hour ago, we heard a deep explosion and felt it shake the floor," said Greenhaven resident Deborah Bharucha. "My friends in Greenhaven and in Shore Acres also heard [and] felt it. No one knows what it was."

Connors said their officers as well as members of the Mamaroneck Police Department did immediately respond to the area in search of the source. Fearing a possible transformer explosion, ConEd was also dispatched to the area.

As of 7:36 p.m. Wednesday evening, Connors said a complete search of roads in the area has been conducted and declared all clear.

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.

Don't feel so bad. The Patch doesn't even acknowledge that PC is a waterfront community. We've allRead More been shorted.
