Police Investigating $50K Rye Jewelry Robbery

Westchester County police, canine unit called to assist on Locust Ave.

Rye police are investigating a $50,000 jewelry robbery this afternoon on Locust Ave., where a salesman was attacked as he was opening the trunk of his car.

Local police have called in Westchester County police and a canine unit to assist with the investigation.

Locust Ave. is closed from Mead Place to Theodore-Fremd Avenue for the investigation.

said a salesman doing business with , 21 Purchase St., in Rye was walking toward his vehicle parked on Locust Ave. when he opened the truck of his grey Honda and was jumped from behind by two or three men at about 1:34 p.m.

The salesman, described as in his 60s, was yelled at by the men and then knocked to the ground. The salesman, however, was not injured.

The attackers grabbed two cases continaining jewelry valued at about $50,000 wholesale. The men fled in a black SUV police believe was parked about 20 feet away, going west on Locust Ave. and then south on Theodore-Fremd.

Police said they are reveiwing video from security cameras in the area as part of the investigation. They are also trying to determine if the salesman was followed from the store.

Connors said the salesman stayed on the ground until police arrived.
