The National Weather Service is warning residents of central and southern Westchester that prolonged rain could cause localized flooding.

Get used to today's rain — it's here to stay.

Weather experts are predicting persistent rainfall between now and 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Rainfall totals will vary throughout the region, but some areas could accumulate as much as 5.5 inches of rain or more.

That will affect low-lying areas, basements and flood-prone parkways throughout lower Westchester.

Here's a detailed map of rainfall expectations for the area.

To blame, said the National Weather Service, is a low pressure system along the Carolinas tracking northward today combining with a stalled front with "abundant Atlantic and Gulf moisture."
