Old Hand Grenade Found in Rye Backyard

A woman reported finding a hand grenade in her back yard on Aug. 31 at 6:05 p.m. Rye police notified Westchester County DPW and transferred the call to the county bomb squad, who discovered it was an old, inert hand grenade, Police Commissioner William Connors said. “The blasting cap had been removed and it was inert,” he said.

Landscapers had discovered it partially covered in dirt.
