New York State Police: Trooper Died of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

Trooper Kerstin Williams of the Town of Nassau had been on the force for 18 months.

The recent death of a 27-year-old, off-duty New York State Police trooper was from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said officials and WNYT-TV.

Trooper Kerstin Williams was found dead Sunday near Nassau Lake in the Town of Nassau in Rensselaer County. Her body was found near where she lived in Nassau, according to The Record News.

Williams had been assigned to Troop F in Liberty where she had worked for 18 months.

"The investigation revealed the weapon used in the incident was Willams' Division-issued firearm," said state police in press release.

"Trooper Williams always had a positive attitude and was eager to do a good job while on the road," the release added. "She was well-liked by both her peers and supervisors and showed the skill set and potential to have an outstanding career with the New York State Police."
