Mercy College Responds to KKK Poster at College Dorm

A flier inviting members to join the white supremacy group for a local meeting was found posted at the Westchester Marriott Hotel in Tarrytown where Mercy College students are housed.

Mercy College and local law enforcement officials are investigating the posting of a flier at the Westchester Marriott Hotel in Tarrytown that promoted violence and sought to recruit members into the Klu Klux Klan.

“The college has zero tolerance for insensitive and disturbing behavior,” said Bernadette Wade, the college’s chief public relations officer. “Mercy College’s Code of Conduct specifies offensive material cannot be posted anywhere. The college is cooperating with local officials as well as conducting its own internal investigation.”

Mercy College’s newspaper The Impact reported that the flier was seen posted at the hotel, where Mercy College students dorm, on Nov. 30. The flyer invited members to a meet on Dec. 1 at the corner of Broadway and Elm Street in Dobbs Ferry and contribute to continuing “this great tradition of lynching Negros.” The Rivertowns Daily Voice reports that Dobbs Ferry Police confirmed the meeting did not occur.

According to The Impact, several names of individuals on the Mercy College Men’s Lacrosse team were listed on the flier, implying that they were the meeting organizers. Local police departments are investigating whether the flier was actually an attempt to recruit new members, if it was a hoax, and if the lacrosse team is involved or being used as a scapegoat.
