The man who died after being struck by a Metro-North train Wednesday night in Greenwich has been identified as a 21-year-old from Long Island, NY, according to a Metro-North spokeswoman.
The victim is Alexander Bertrand of 1032 Lawrence Ct. in N. Woodmere, NY. North Woodmere is located in Nassau County on the South Shore of Long Island.
Metro-North spokeswoman Marjorie Anders said the cause of the accident—which occurred about 7 p.m. Oct. 17—is under investigation.
Bertrand was struck by the train a short distance from the railroad overpass on Davis Avenue, near Bruce Park Place. He was taken to Stamford Hospital by Greenwich Emergency Medical Service (GEMS) where he died a short time later.
At the bi-weekly meeting of the Greenwich Board of Selectmen, First Selectman Peter Tesei praised the efforts of (GEMS), the Greenwich Police and Greenwich Fire departments. "I do want to compliment the work by the fire service, police and GEMS. No one can truly appreciate the work they do," Tesei said. "I observed first-hand, the response of our first-responders...it was eye-opening. We are saddened when there is any fatality in our town," said Tesei, who also serves as the town's fire and police commissioner.

An unidentified man was struck by a Metro-North train near the Davis Avenue railroad overpass Wednesday night, according to authorities, and later died of his injuries.
According to Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gray, at about 7 p.m., Oct. 17, "Metro North Police contacted the Greenwich Police emergency dispatch center advising that they needed assistance with an accident that had taken place on their tracks in the area of Davis Avenue."
Gray said, "Officers from the fire department, police department and GEMS (Greenwich Emergency Medical Service) were all dispatched out where they rendered aid to a male subject in his 20s that had been struck by a train. The subject was transported to the Stamford (Hospital) ER."
According to the Greenwich Post, a Metropolitan Transit Authority spokesman said the man died of his injuries. His identity has not been released.
Gray referred questions to the MTA police who are investigating the incident. "It is a Metro North investigation. They also responded to the scene and arrived shortly after we arrived. They have assumed responsibility for the investigation," Gray said.
While emergency crews were at the scene, service on the New Haven Line was shut down. The MTA reported service was nearly back to normal about 10 p.m.
