Increase in Coyotes and Rabid Raccoons Reported in Rye

   Rabid Raccoon
A rabid raccoon was reported on May 4 at 8:54 a.m. Police received another reported of a sick raccoon on the turf field by the pole vault area on Rye High School on May 7 at 2:46 p.m.  

Increase in Coyote Sightings
Rye police received an increase in reports of coyotes this month. A coyote was seen on Lindberg Avenue running towards Rye Golf Club on May 7 at 6:26 a.m.   A coyote was reported in the front yard of a Manursing Island Road home on May 8 at 8:52 a.m. Police saw the coyote in the sanctuary part of Island Drive.   A coyote was sighted on Magnolia Place on May 9 at 7:28 a.m.   A Stuyvesant Avenue resident reported a coyote showing a lack of fear in her backyard on May 9 at 1:53 p.m. Police checked the area but could not find the animal. They warned neighbors in the area of the increase in coyote sightings.
