Harrison Cop Shoots Suspected Burglar After Traffic Stop on I-287

Harrison police issued a statement Thursday morning confirming the shooting, which happened just after 6:40 p.m. Wednesday.

A Harrison police officer shot a suspected burglar during a traffic stop on Westchester Ave. in Harrison Wednesday night, police have confirmed.

Police were in the process of arresting three men suspected of a Sep. 3 burglary when the officer fired two shots—one of which hit Daniel Dibiase, 55, of Poughquag, N.Y., police say.

Dibiase was transported to Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla. His current condition is unknown.

Dibiase was traveling in a Chevrolet Blazer with two other men—Carmine Stanzione (a.k.a. Paul Dibiase), 57, of Poughquag and Jason Foskey, 34, of Stormville, at about 6:40 p.m. when police stopped them on an Interstate 287 exit to Westchester Ave. in Harrison.

The three men are accused of stealing more than $500,000 worth of jewelry during the September burglary. Police say they had been monitoring the suspects and that all three were wanted in connection with another attempted burglary in Harrison. Police said the men are also suspects in numerous home invasion robberies and burglaries in Westchester and other parts of New York.

Stanzione, Foskey and Dibiase have been charged with second-degree burglary and second-degree attempted burglary, felonies. Stanzione and Foskey were held overnight in police headquarters and were expected to be arraigned Thursday. Dibiase is under police guard at Westchester Medical Center, police say.

Harrison Police Chief Anthony Marraccini declined to comment further, citing on on-going investigation. Harrison police requested the Westchester County Department of Public Safety to review the shooting, according to a police statement.

Several Harrison police officers were treated at Greenwich Hospital and released, according to a police statement. Police did not release the nature of their injuries.

Police executed search warrants Wednesday night in the homes of all three men. Stanzione and Dibiase live together and are brothers with a history of arrests for burglary and other crimes, police said.
