Greenburgh PD: KKK Flier Probably a Hoax

Police said a rival sports team might have posted the flier.

Local police say a rival of Mercy College’s Men's Lacrosse Team may be responsible for posting a flier at the Westchester Marriott Hotel in Tarrytown that invited members to a meeting for the Klu Klux Klan in Dobbs Ferry.

The flier was seen posted on the evening of Nov. 30 at the hotel, where Mercy College students dorm, and said that the lacrosse team was hosting the Dec. 1 meeting of the KKK at a lacrosse player’s home in Dobbs Ferry, the The Impact, Mercy College’s newspaper, first reported.

Greenburgh Police told The Impact that the flier—which said the meeting would continue “this great tradition of lynching negroes” doesn’t appear to be a KKK recruitment tool and that the incident is not considered a hate crime, but aggravated harassment, a class A misdemeanor, which could carry a maximum penalty of up to one year in prison.

One of the lacrosse members named on the flier contacted police claiming that the lacrosse team had nothing to do with it, according to law enforcement officals said. Police said the incident is probably a hoax.

The Impact reports that Mercy College students have expressed their shock and outrage  over the hate message being spread around their school.
