The City of Rye Police Department is informing residents that the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Saturday morning through Saturday Night.

 

A memo from the City of Rye Police Department states:

 

The National Weather Service has isued a Flood Watch for Saturday morning through Saturday night. Although the forecast calls for only 1 to 2 inches of rain, frozen ground increases the potential for flooding.

Residents should monitor commercial forecasts and the National Weather Service at www.weather.gov on Saturday to be aware of any developments indicating the possibility of flooding.

* FROM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH LATE SATURDAY NIGHT

* LOW PRESSURE MOVING FROM THE MIDWEST INTO EASTERN CANADA WILL
DRAG A COLD FRONT THROUGH THE REGION SATURDAY NIGHT. THIS SYSTEM
WILL TAP INTO GULF AND ATLANTIC MOISTURE TO PRODUCE HEAVY
RAINFALL SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND SATURDAY NIGHT.

* RAINFALL AMOUNTS FROM 1 1/2 TO 2 INCHES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER
AMOUNTS OF UP TO 2 1/2 INCHES...ARE LIKELY TO CAUSE SIGNIFICANT
URBAN...LOW LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE FLOODING DURING THE WATCH
PERIOD. IN ADDITION TO URBAN AND POOR DRAINAGE FLOODING...FLASHY
SMALL STREAM AND RIVER FLOODING IS POSSIBLE. CONDITIONS ARE ALSO
FAVORABLE FOR ICE JAM FLOODING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING BASED ON
CURRENT FORECASTS. YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE
ALERT FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO
FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING
DEVELOP.
