Bear Sighting in Rye Brook

Police report a bear sighting in Rye Brook/Greenwich border area Tuesday night.

Rye Brook and Greenwich Police are working together after a black bear and cub were twice sighted near Stonehedge Drive and King Street this Tuesday.

Rye Brook Police Lt. Eugene Matthews said there was no additional information available after the department sent a NIXLE alert to residents Tuesday evening advising them of the area where the bears were spotted.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation cautions residents to secure their garbage cans and not leave pet food outside overnight. If you see the bears, you should contact Rye Brook Police Department 914-937-1020 or in the event of an emergency dial 911.
