BB Gun Bandits Hit Rye Businesses

Eight Purchase Street businesses were hit with BB gun pellets around midnight Wednesday, police said today.

The pellets broke the glass of the large front window at Henri's, which is now boarded up with plywood, but did not destroy any other windows.

Rye police are investigating the incident and Henri's owner Henri Heyne hopes his security camera caught the culprits on tape, although he has not checked them yet, he said.

"I think people that came in this morning were just a little upset it happened here in this community," Heyne said.

Heyne boarded up his window early this morning before opening and expects a replacement to cost about $2,000 and take some time to install.

"It was not a cheap piece of glass. It is probably half an inch thick and nine feet tall."

There was already a pellet mark on the glass from another time this happened a long time ago, Heyne said.

Fortunately, Henri's and the other businesses that were hit are all still open.

We will keep you updated on any progress on the police investigation.
