At Ground Zero: A Gallery of Powerful Images

Photographer Lester Millman shares a gallery of images taken at Ground Zero.

National and international award winning photojournalist Lester Millman shares powerful images taken at Ground Zero ten years ago. The Scarsdale-based photographer captured raw images of the devastation after the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, but also the poignant resolve of first responders who worked diligently to rescue and recover.

Millman, who worked for as a photographer for the State of New York at the time, travelled with Governor George Pataki to Ground Zero. Millman has recently donated the prints to the New York State Museum in Albany. A number of them are published here for the first time.

The images he captured, starting at 11 p.m. on 9/11 and continuing for weeks, are a timeline of the 10 month-long clean-up effort. From world dignitary visits to police and fire crime scene work, Millman used his lens to document the extraordinary event.
