Rye's going Back to the Future.

The Power of (Cred).

 

New Rye Police Commissioner Bill Pease, like the man that hired him, Frank Culross, retired from public service in Rye soon after Steve Otis first began issuing improper directives from the mayor’s office back in 1998. And to my knowledge, unlike those who would replace them (sometimes repeatedly) in the following decade, neither Pease nor Culross were ever rumored be engaged in the kinds of cruel and outright illegal behavior that some who followed them did.

Joe Sack’s Rye United is buying time here in re-staffing the municipality’s most senior positions. They are importing trust and stability which is a proven and prudent turn-around strategy especially when you’ve got deep organizational and cultural problems. And smartly, they are not setting time limits on the how long these veterans will serve. Nor are they limiting the scope of their duties.

Like others who do this kind of work I recognize the strategy and know its powers and pitfalls. There are no guarantees in life. But this approach has a very good chance of success if managed properly. A kudo to our pols.
