Rye Officials’ “Quiet Courage”

(This one gets my vote for comment of the week.)

“Mayor Joe Sack is standing up to County Executive Rob Astorino and Board of Legislators Chairman Mike Kaplowitz to defend Rye City's right to enforce our zoning laws. Catherine Parker, who is supposed to stand up for us as our actual rep. to the County Board, is playing Mini Me to Rob and Mike, I guess as penance for supporting Noam Bramson last Fall when she was a "progressive". I haven't always agreed with Joe Sack, and even less often with Laura Brett, but I freely admit here that I am proud of them for showing the quiet courage they've shown in doing the job they were elected to do. So many public servants, no matter how low on the totem pole, quickly get caught up in being politicians, and forget that they represent us. Catherine certainly has. I find her scolding Rye in the press to be amateurish and obnoxious, especially since this council is trying to clean up the mess her council left behind. I want that pop-up parking lot returned to a pocket park post haste, make no mistake. I think whomever authorized the gravel should be out there this weekend shoveling it up. But, I think it's counter productive to put this in Joe's lap when we need Joe and Laura to focus now on the work our other elected officials are too craven or compromised to do.”
