POLL: Should Rye Town Be Dissolved?

Local leaders, taxpayers and concerned citizens are weighing that question over a series of public meetings and studies.

A second hearing on the Rye Town dissolution study is scheduled for early next month, after residents and local leaders met last weekend for of public meetings.

Aside from the possibility of eliminating an extra layer of government, there are important questions to answer. Among them: in tough economic times, how can three municipalities make the best of things and share resources?

The study is financed with state funds and contributions from Port Chester, Rye and Rye Brook. A state-funded website provides details on the study, including background documents, a schedule of meetings and a feedback form.

I say leave the Town Government and dissolve the two villages, that's where the duplication of services is occuring.

My family is town less, we pay taxes to Rye Brook for services but get sent to PC schools according to the RYE TOWN government. We are excluded from election materials and surveys due to the odd nature of this set up. For homeowner's living on the line, it would be nice to have a clearly defined town to live in. Dissolving the government would be a step in the right direction. Though I do not see this happening as it was set up this way for a reason (around the time of the 1980's Yonkers desegregation case, was when the town of Rye Brook incorporated.)

In these tough economic times it is practical and good business to move this concept forward. Right now Rye Town Government is like a "self licking" ice cream cone. I applaud the people who have worked in Rye Town all of these years but it's time for them to realize that the Taxpayer's can no longer afford these duplication of efforts. I'd like to hear how they're going to re-structure the Police & Fire Services as well as garbage, schools and financial services. TIME TO MOVE FORWARD. GOOD LUCK!

Town should have been dissolved long ago. I doubt it will happen in the next couple of years though. Carvin and his crew just got re-elected.
