Playland’s ‘Brigadoon?’

Unlike a mysterious vanishing Scottish village in Lerner & Loewe’s 1947 musical by the same name, Playland’s huge existing multi-field sports area hasn’t yet disappeared into the mist like ‘Brigadoon’ as far as I know.

 

In fact these acres and acres of open playing fields are still attached to Playland – available for use every day rather than once every hundred years. Only suddenly, like a legend, they’re not to be spoken of in certain local social circles.

Curiously these naturally draining, formerly lush fields where countless Rye baseball, football and soccer players once roamed have been let to go to waste.

Why?

 

What kind of misty money is there to be made by ignoring their existence and pointing would-be sports enthusiasts into a flooding field zone ‘solution’ in the parking lot instead?

 

Local candor about these fields is apparently part of what’s been vanishing here to date.
