Playland-SPI Restart Meeting

Summary Meeting Notes:

County indemnity of SPI during approval process as written in latest SPI letter is not agreed to by the committee. Indemnity issue is “grossly misstated” according to BOL Chairman Kaplowitz.

SPI has not yet entered into critical contracts to manage the amusement park (like Central Amusements). BOL Chair Kaplowitz insists SPI needs to make progress and provide answers so the board has something real to review.

Parkland alienation standards are not applicable per county and SPI attorneys because of SPI agreement structure as a “management agreement” thus avoiding by design any park alienation requirements.

 

County attorney reaffirms lead agency absolute control of all planning and zoning decisions (including environmental issues under SEQR) about Playland. Rye is invited and welcome to provide community input – but would have zero real veto powers.
