JULY 4TH WEEK PET SAFETY!!

OK local pet parents, every year there is a spate of reported lost pets (mostly dogs, but cats too) who go running off on July 4th because the fireworks have terrified them.

I did a little research and here's a breakdown of all the area fireworks shows that you have to be mindful of over the next few days:

RYE:
Playland - Thurs. night & Fri. night. Confirmed none on Sat. or Sun.

AYC - not sure, no one answering their phones

HARRISON: Fri. 7/4

MAMARONECK: Fri. 7/4

PORT CHESTER: Fri. 7/4

Again a reminder, most fireworks shows start around 9pm.

Please keep ALL PETS safely indoors between 8pm & 10/10:30 pm and keep ALL DOGS ON LEASH these nights. This is NOT the week to have them outside unsupervised on the electric fence or even loose in a yard where they may scramble over or under a physical fence if they are in a panic. Keep in mind also that prior to and after the official fireworks displays many local people like to set their own things off.

If you are having a party/bbq with many guests going in and out of the home, keep the pets closed off safely in a quiet room so you know they cannot wander off.

Make sure you have a recent GOOD photo of the pet and that they are wearing collars with name tags!

Too many terrified pets take off due to the booms. Let's try to see a decline in the number of lost pets reported this weekend coming up. This goes for CATS as well as dogs. Bring the kitties indoors before the festivities start!

And whatever you do, DO NOT take your dogs to the fireworks!! Trust me, this is NOT their idea of fun and you stand a good chance of losing them! Go have a good time, just leave them at home.

Wising everyone a safe and happy Independence Day!
