Election Straw Poll: Rye City Council

Take our straw poll. Which candidates will you select for Rye City Council?

Decision time is here. After months of campaigning, Rye voters will select three Councilmembers from a field of six candidates.

The candidates have teamed up to run together in two groups:

Calling themselves the Ticket of Experience, incumbent councilmembers and have joined with past Rye City School Board President to run on the Democratic and Working Families ballot lines. In addition to citing their collective experience in public office, the candidates' collective platform is fiscal discipline, leadership and achievement.

Incumbent is running with newcomers and on the Republican, Conservative and Independence party ballots. Collectively, the trio has identified themselves as The Best of Rye. Their platform is strong, independent leadership; they stress the relevance of the professional experience and skills as well as their civic engagement.

sponsored by the League of Women Voters which you can watch in two parts here. The candidates addressed local issues including the future of Playland, regional flood mitigation, and budget priorities under the two percent tax cap among others.

Which candidates do you support? Are you voting along party lines or choosing candidates individually? What do you think is the most important factor in picking a candidate for this race?

Vote in our straw poll and leave your comments about the candidates and the issues.

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.
