Rye Rec Hosting Acocella Blood Drive Friday

Rye Recreation Center will host a blood drive Friday in memory of Harrison resident Joey Acocella.

When Harrison Town Clerk Joey Acocella lost his battle with lumbar sacral agenesis last August, hundreds of people attended his funeral services in tribute to the service he rendered to his community during his short life. His family and friends vowed the causes he fought for, wouldn't die as well. Since his passing, those closest to him in life, continue to hold organ transplant and blood drives in his name.

On Friday, a blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at in honor of Acocella and tomorrow afternoon from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Mamaroneck Volunteer Engine and Hose #3, 643 Mamaroneck Ave

"The family contacted us and said this is what they wanted to do," said close friend Jennifer Lucas. "They made a memorial fund so that everything he supported could continue to be supported."
