Armed Forces Appreciation Day at Playland Sunday

Just in time for Memorial Day Weekend, Playland hosts Armed Forces Appreciation Day this Sunday.

Attention veterans, service members – and their families: Come to Westchester County's 5th annual Veterans Appreciation Day and Memorial Day Tribute at Playland, Sunday, May 27.

All Westchester veterans are urged to pre-register today for this event at  Westchester County Veterans Services Agency office, White Plains or Yonkers Veterans Service Agency.

Sunday's event, sponsored by Westchester County, runs from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Westchester Police Emerald Society Pipe and Drum Corps will perform at the main gate at noon. At 1:30 p.m., County Executive Robert P. Astorino will deliver a tribute in memory of those who have lost their lives in defense of the United States. There will a helicopter and Osprey Flight demonstration provided by the U.S. Marine Corps at 2 p.m., weather permitting.

The barbecue is co-sponsored by Fordham University and The Generoso Pope Foundation.

Veterans from Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), as well as any active duty members and their families, will receive a free parking pass and free ride bands or entrance bands. All other veterans will receive a free parking pass or entrance bands and discount ride coupons. A valid military and or veteran organization/ VA Health ID card is required.

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.
