In appreciation for their service, Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey is providing a professional outfit to all veterans, past or present, who go to any of its 39 area stores.
“We are grateful for the efforts of our armed forces on behalf of our country and want to support their job search and transition to the workforce," said Goodwill President and CEO William J. Forrester. "Today’s economic climate has been hard on nearly every family. For veterans returning from abroad, finding affordable clothing is essential.”
To get an outfit, veterans show their military ID and mention "Goodwill Suits Vets" from Friday through Sunday, Jan. 6-8, 2012. Visit the Goodwill NY-NJ website(http://www.goodwillnynj.org) to find your nearest store.
Goodwill has stores in:
Somers, 80 Route 6
Croton, 440 South Riverside Avenue
Elmsford, 380 North Saw Mill River Road
Nanuet, 130 W. Route 59
New Rochelle, 8 Joyce Road
Forrester said that by giving to Goodwill, anyone can help support the organization’s efforts to provide a broad selection of useful clothing to returning vets. Also, he noted the deadline to qualify for an IRS deduction is Saturday, so donors benefit by giving to Goodwill as part of the program. Tax receipts are available upon request at all 39 area Goodwill Stores and at DonationXpress, the group’s attended donation centers.
Goodwill is reaching out to the public for help and asks that you donate professional clothing for men and women, including suits; suit jackets; dress pants and skirts, shirts and blouses, and shoes; ties; scarves; and accessories. Drop your donations at any Goodwill store. If your company participates, Goodwill says they’ll arrange a special pick up.
In addition to supporting the troops, Goodwill provides affordable clothing for the public, operates job-generating programs for unemployed individuals, and works with economically-challenged populations including youth and people with emotional, mental and physical disabilities.
