Al's Angels: Bringing Hope, Holidays to Needy Children

Patch is spotlighting area fundraising campaigns on GoFundMe.

For many, the holiday season is a time not only to give thanks and spend time with loved ones, but also to lend a helping hand to people and organizations that need it.

It was in that spirit that Westport, CT-based Al’s Angels children’s charity was created a decade ago.

Founded by Al DiGuido and supported by volunteers, the charity has helped thousands of children in the tri-state area who are affected by cancer, rare blood diseases, AIDS, domestic violence and financial hardship.

Here’s an excerpt from the Al’s Angels fundraising page on GoFundMe:

“We felt then...and now..that as the holidays came around that these children had little or nothing to bring them hope & joy during the season. We started creating Thanksgiving, Christmas & Hanukah meal bins for these families (containing $100 worth of holiday groceries) so that we could bring some moments of hope and joy during their most desperate time of the year. We also thought it made sense to provide Santa Claus to these children in the hospitals and clinics where the vast number of them spent their ‘holidays.’ ”

According to the page, Al’s Angels in one month has raised $2,470 of its $10,000 goal, from 19 people.
