Christ’s Church Senior Warden John Minks announced the news in a letter to the congregation this week:
The Diocese of New York has just released the names of the five candidates for the position of Bishop Suffragan, and that list includes our Rector, Susan Harriss. The election will take place at a special meeting on Saturday, December 7 at the Cathedral, where clergy and delegates from over 200 parishes will gather to elect the new Bishop. Your parish representatives at the convention will be John Minks, Lisa Hogan, Bruce Macleod, and Andrew Swank. There will be a series of walk abouts scheduled in November where delegates will have a chance to meet the candidates. If you would like to review more information about the election or the candidates, you can visit the diocese website at http://suffragan.episcopalny.org/.
While I am sure many will have mixed feelings about the prospect of Susan leaving our parish, it is an honor for her to be nominated and is a recognition of the wonderful job she has done at Christ's Church and throughout her career. Let us all remember this is an election, not an appointment, so we really have no idea what the outcome will be. In the meantime, Christ's Church will continue to thrive and grow and it will be business as usual at church.
Please keep the diocese, Susan, and all the candidates in your prayers. I look forward to seeing you at church.
